PCT SOBO DAY 18 – Snoqualmie

1st August 2016

Ridge lake - Snoqualmie Pass

7.5 miles

740ft up 3050ft down

I struggled to wake up and I woke in a panic that I had slept in late. It was only 6, but that was late for a town day. I wanted a nice early start. I got going by 6:40 slowly over the rocks and into the heat.

Only 7.5 miles to go. Up over the rocks, over the Kendal katwalk, down into the forest and into Snoqualmie Pass.

I got phone reception which slowed me down. I decided to call my mum and dad over the last 2 miles and they got a real live experience of the PCT, all the people I stopped to talk to, the amount of people who passed me, my heavy breathing as I went uphill!

It took me 3.5 hours which was longer than I was expecting but I eventually arrived at the trailhead. I made an involuntary beeline to the outhouse. A sudden urgency had taken over me and I needed to drop the kids off at the cesspool.

I walked up the road to civilisation and It was hot! I went straight to the Aardvark and there were a bunch of other people there, 3 heading south – Fresh Sip, Running Red and Gilligan, and a few northbounders. They seem to have found themselves in a bit of a vortex and no one was keen on hiking out.

I went straight to the gas station and bought a chocolate milk, a Mountain Dew and a tube of Pringles. Glendee came to pick me up and we had lunch at the aardvark. Hurry Curry is one of the best foods on the trail.

Back at her house I was able to get clean, sort out my kit, do laundry, eat. All the good stuff.

And I mostly spent the afternoon absorbed in my phone, catching up with people and updating my blog...
